BNL

In the spirit of local music scene Web havens like thecoalition.net and NashvilleRock.net comes Shane Leach's Internet depot for Murfreesboro artist and gig information, Boro Night Life. Located at clik.to/bnl - and here's hoping for a more user-friendly URL - Boro Night Life is Leach's personal no-bells, no-whistles site that focuses almost entirely on Murfreesboro nightlife, providing band links, show dates, venue information and a lively message board forum.

The ultimate goal for the 22-year-old MTSU accounting major is simple: "A connected, well-established music scene in Murfreesboro that rivals that of Nashville." Now, that's not to say that Nashville bands (or Knoxville bands, or La Vergne bands) and venues are excluded, Leach adds. The focus, though, remains promoting a 'Boro scene Leach had felt was getting "disorganized."

"Boro Night Life, and Web sites like it, benefit bands a great deal," says Leach. "They allow them to get free advertisement for a show, and to communicate with each other when they need help with something."

Can we open for you guys? Absolutely. Would you consider opening for us? Um, possibly. Do you have a spare drum stool? I will check.

Participation in Boro Night Life is free to artists and venues, though Leach does offer a for-fee booking service (LeachBooking) for local bands in order to fund the Web site. "I suppose you could say it allows BNL to be more self-sufficient than it would be otherwise," he explains.

Leach caught the entrepreneurial bug while working at, gasp, Starbucks. "I set up the only consistent music performance program in any Starbucks in the state of Tennessee at the time," he says, adding, "I raised the (Murfreesboro) store's income by 30 percent." And that's a lot of biscotti.
